Do's & Don'ts
To ensure you have a fun, safe, and enjoyable strawberry-picking experience, here are a few helpful do’s and don’ts to keep in mind while you’re out in the fields!
Do's
Do Pick Ripe Strawberries:
- Look for bright red strawberries that are fully ripe. Ripe strawberries are the sweetest and most flavorful.
- Gently pull the berry from the stem, leaving the green cap intact, which helps the plant continue producing fruit.
Do Use Basket or Container:
- Use the container or basket provided by the farm to collect your strawberries. It’s the best way to carry your harvest without crushing the fruit.
Do Respect the Plants:
- Be gentle when picking the berries to avoid damaging the plants. Picking only the ripe berries allows the plant to continue growing and producing more fruit.
- Don’t pull or tug on the plants—be mindful of the environment around you.
Do Wear Comfortable Clothing:
- Wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes, especially if you’ll be walking through the fields. If it’s a sunny day, don’t forget your sunscreen and hat!
Do Ask for Help:
- If you’re not sure how to pick the strawberries, ask one of our friendly farm staff for guidance. We’re happy to help!
Do Take Your Time & Enjoy:
- Strawberry picking is about more than just harvesting fruit; it’s an experience! Take your time, enjoy the fresh air, and have fun with family and friends.
Don’ts
Don’t Pick Unripe or Overripe Berries:
- Avoid picking strawberries that are still green or have signs of mold, rot, or damage. Unripe berries won’t taste as sweet.
- Don’t pick the green stems or leaves; only pick the berries themselves.
Don’t Consume Strawberries and other produce in field:
- Kindly refrain from consuming strawberries or other produce in the fields.
- They may be consumed after billing at designated area.
Don’t Walk Through Restricted Areas:
- Please stay in the designated picking areas. Some sections of the farm may be off-limits to allow for regrowth and to prevent damaging crops.
Don’t Waste Strawberries:
- Only pick what you plan to use. Don’t overpick or waste berries by leaving them in the field, as that can affect future harvests.
- Handle the berries carefully to avoid bruising them. It’s best to pick them one at a time.
Don’t Bring Pets or Animals:
- For the safety of your pets and others, we ask that you leave pets at home. Animals in the fields can sometimes damage plants and disrupt the picking experience.
Don’t Leave Trash Behind:
- Please take all of your litter, including discarded strawberry tops, containers, and any personal items, with you. Let’s keep the farm beautiful for everyone to enjoy.
Don’t Rush:
- Picking strawberries is about enjoying the moment. Take your time, but be mindful of your time in the fields so other visitors can also enjoy the experience.
By following these simple do’s and don’ts, you’ll help ensure a pleasant, productive, and environmentally friendly strawberry picking experience for yourself and future visitors. Enjoy your time on the farm, and happy picking!
